Vedavyasachar Srishananda is a Karnataka High Court judge who has made controversial statements during hearings. A five-member Special Bench comprising the Chief Justice of India (CJI), D.Y. Chandrachud, was constituted to address the incidents. The case was closed after Srishananda apologized.
Srishananda was seen referring to a locality in Bengaluru with a Muslim majority population as “Pakistan” in a video clip on 6 June, 2024. In another clip from 28 August, 2024, he was seen making “objectionable remarks” against a woman advocate appearing before him.
In relation to the first clip, the Special Bench stated they were “deeply concerned” by the comments Justice Srishananda made, and Chandrachud remarked that referring to a territory in India as Pakistan was “fundamentally contrary to the territorial integrity of the nation”.
In the second incident, Justice Srishanananda can be heard telling the woman lawyer that she seemed to know a lot about the “opposition party”, so much so that she might be able to reveal the color of their undergarments.
Justice Srishananda also attended a Brahmin convention, an event that claims to uphold and protect Brahmin values and rights, organized by the Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha, in Bengaluru in January 2025, along with Justice Krishna S. Dixit. They praised contributions made by the Brahmin community to society and Srishananda said that such events must be organized to “discuss their [community’s] issues”, despite Brahmins being some of the most powerful, dominant and elite communities.
