Sheetal Chopra

Affiliation: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh
Vocation/Title: Right-wing Influencer
Categories: Hate Mongers
Location: Maharashtra

Sheetal Chopra, better known by her handle Sheetal Pronamo, is a notorious right-wing propagandist and a vocal supporter of Hindu supremacist ideology. With 118.2k followers on X (formerly Twitter), she uses her platform to spread fake news, and anti-minority rhetoric and amplifies the agenda of the Hindu nationalist party Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ideological parent, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

A self-proclaimed fourth-generation RSS member, Chopra has built her influence by fueling communal tensions, attacking minorities, and defending BJP’s propaganda under the guise of nationalism.

In July 2023, a video went viral on social media in which some people were seen climbing on top of a monument and waving the Algerian flag. It has been claimed that the video was filmed at the Republic Square in Paris during the recent protests and that the French authorities have surrendered to Muslim refugees.

Sheetal Chopra, like many other right-wing Indian supporters, shared a misleading video claiming that “Jihadis had captured the Republic Square in Paris and were establishing their rule in France.” She further suggested that such events could occur in India if an “anti-national party” were elected to power. However, Alt News debunked this claim. The video actually depicted protesters waving Algerian flags at the Place de la République in Paris, demonstrating against Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s decision to run for a fifth term in office.

Sheetal Chopra is a loudmouth bigot who hides her ignorance behind a facade of being modern and aware. Her obsession with targeting Muslims, especially Muslim women, exposes just how shallow and hateful her worldview is.

In May 2023, when the Karnataka government overturned the Hijab ban in schools, Chopra jumped on Twitter to spew her usual nonsense. She proudly declared: Khangress govt in Karnataka has decided to overturn hijab ban and allow it in all educational institutes. Will they allow a Hindu to wear Bhagwa gamchha on the uniform?” By calling Congress “Khangress”—a childish dig associating the party with Muslims because “Khan” is a common Muslim surname—Chopra exposed her obsession with communal division.

Her attempt to compare the Hijab, a religious obligation for Muslim women, to a Bhagwa gamchha (saffron scarf) worn by Hindus, was not only illogical but also deliberately provocative. Her so-called “smart” tweet, which gained 14,000 views, was rightly criticized by her own audience, with many asking: “In which Hindu religious book does it say Hindus need to wear a gamchha?”

Sheetal Chopra’s habit of spreading fake news to target Muslims is nothing new. In October 2023, she jumped at the chance to spread lies about a viral video showing women in burqas arguing with a woman in a saree on a bus in Kerala.

Chopra, desperate to push her anti-Muslim agenda, tweeted: “Hindu women have to wear Burqa or else they will not be allowed on the bus. This is communist rule in Kerala. In 1901, Kerala had over 70% Hindu population, and as of 2011, it’s 54.5%. No doubt why it is on the decline.” This claim was completely false. Alt News fact-checked the video and found that it had nothing to do with religion. The fight happened because the bus wouldn’t stop at a new bus stop near Khansa Women’s College, forcing students—most of them in burqas—to protest. The woman in the saree argued against their protest, and the students explained why they were upset.

In August 2024, Sheetal Chopra exposed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s obsession with anti-Muslim hate in a Twitter threadthat she thought was a proud moment. She listed BJP leaders who are infamous for spreading hatred against Muslims and have criminal cases against them for their speeches and actions.

Chopra praised figures like T. Raja Singh, one of the most dangerous men openly spewing venom against Muslims, and Anurag Thakur, known for chanting “desh ke gaddaro ko goli maaro sa***n” ko (shoot down the traitors who betray the country (implying Muslims)”. She also celebrated CM Yogi Adityanath, whose anti-Muslim policies and remarks have made him a poster boy of hatred, and MP Manohar Lal Khattar and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, both known for their communal comments and policies targeting minorities.

Chopra proudly declared that the BJP always supports and honors such leaders and claimed that this was proof of the party’s strength. What Chopra thought was a moment of pride was actually a chilling reminder of how BJP has built its power on fear, bigotry, and hatred. Her tweet wasn’t just an attempt to glorify hate; it exposed the rot at the core of the BJP’s ideology and how figures like Chopra act as mouthpieces for it, celebrating discrimination as if it’s something to be proud of.
