Sandeep Thakur is a BJP youth worker, RSS foot soldier, and a relentless amplifier of anti-Muslim hate. With over 48,000 followers on X, his feed is a cesspool of misinformation, bigotry, and communal propaganda, fueling the Bharatiya Janata Party’s divisive agenda. He boasts of unfurling the Indian flag in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on December 14, 2018. At the time, Jammu and Kashmir still held its semi-autonomous status under Article 370.
In May 2021, Thakur once again spread misinformation, this time linking a heartbreaking video from Andhra Pradesh to post-poll violence in West Bengal. The clip showed a teenage girl trying to give water to her dying COVID-positive father while her mother, fearing for her daughter’s safety, tried to stop her. Thakur falsely claimed the video was from Bengal and used it to call for the President’s rule and army deployment in the state. His tweet, which gained over 1,400 retweets, was later debunked by fact-checkers.
In April 2021, Thakur helped spread false claims that Muslims had vandalized three temples in Dwarka, Delhi, amplifying misinformation pushed by Sudarshan News. However, Delhi Police later confirmed that the accused was a local cobbler named Mahesh, who damaged the idols out of frustration over inadequate rainfall. His post was viewed over 2,000 times. Despite clear evidence that the incident had no communal angle, Thakur continued to spread the fake news, adding to Sudarshan News’ long history of distorting facts to fuel communal tensions.
In May 2020, Sandeep Thakur spread yet another false claim, this time sharing a video of football fans clashing with police in Romania and falsely alleging that Muslim commuters in Paris were spitting on passengers. He even called for similar action against Muslims in India, invoking past Islamophobic narratives that falsely blamed the community for spreading COVID-19. The video, originally from Bucharest, had nothing to do with Muslims or Paris, but Thakur used it to fuel communal hatred—just as he had done before. Fact-checkers later debunked his claim.
Thakur has repeatedly posted misleading videos and inflammatory messages on his X account, targeting Muslims and spreading false information.
