Ramesh Solanki is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and staunch Hindu supremacist from Maharashtra. With over 130,000 followers, he uses his social media to spread anti-Muslim propaganda, promote Hindu supremacist ideology, and push for the disenfranchisement of minorities.
In a December 2024 interview shared on his Facebook, Solanki pushed the baseless “love jihad” conspiracy theory, claiming Muslim men are “trapping” Hindu girls, and suggesting they end up dead, dismembered, or stuffed in suitcases. He claimed that “Hindus are at risk from deceitful Hindus; their very aim is to kill Hindus and eliminate them.” He also stated “When our processions, like Ganpati Visarjan, are taken out, they (implying Muslims) will throw stones; and what will our Hindus do? At Christmas, they will go to Iftar parties, wear caps, eat seviyan, or sing Jingle Bells.”
In the same interview, Solanki claimed that “swords beheaded our ancestors, but we did not convert.”
In the interview, Solanki also said that Ayodhya was just the beginning. The infamous line “Ayodhya is a peep, Kashi and Mathura are yet to be conquered” reflects the far-right Hindu belief that mosques in Kashi (Varanasi) and Mathura are built over ancient Hindu temples and must be reclaimed to restore Hindu dominance.
In the same interview, Solanki criticized comedians mocking Hinduism. He said “If anyone dares to target my religion, I will stand up,” adding, and threatened, “Sudar jao warna sudhar denge,” meaning, “Change your ways, or we will force you to.” Solanki was referring to Muslim comedian Munawar Faruqui. In 2021, Faruqui was falsely accused of making jokes about Hindu gods and jailed for it.
Solanki is also a regular peddler of fake news. In February 2020 he attacked journalist Rana Ayyub, accusing her of spreading fake news after she posted a video of a mob chanting “Jai Shri Ram” and “Hinduon ka Hindustan” while hoisting a saffron flag on a mosque in Delhi. Solanki claimed that the incident was unrelated to the anti-CAA protests, and later filed a police complaint against Ayyub. However, an Alt News report confirmed that the incident was an attack on a mosque in Ashok Nagar, during which the mob climbed the minaret, looted a shop, and set the mosque on fire.
In March 2021, Solanki shared an old video of a boy urinating in a temple, giving it a false anti-Muslim spin. He tweeted, “Shhh… don’t say anything, it’s secularism. Spread this video until it reaches the propagandists who ran the ‘Sorry’ campaign to malign Hindus. Wake up, HINDU, wake up. #JaiSriRam.” BJP leader Kapil Mishra also shared the video, which gained over 50,000 views. The original 2018 video showed two individuals, Anand and Ramesh Anand, with Ramesh urinating. The incident had already been investigated, and Ramesh was charged under multiple sections.
He filed a police complaint against Netflix for streaming “anti-Hindu” content in September 2019. In July 2019, Solanki clashed with journalist Zainab Sikander on X (formerly Twitter), targeting her for her Muslim faith and claiming the Quran teaches Muslims to kill non-believers, or “Kaafir.”
Solanki regularly posts unsubstantiated tweets, including “Why is everyone quiet when a pregnant cow is slaughtered infront of a temple, just imagine some Hindus slaughter a pig infront of a mosque.” He also shared a tweet claiming that Muslims in India are involved in “Love Jihad, land Jihad, patharbaaji, conspiracy against Nation,” implying that these are actions carried out by Muslims. In another tweet, he stated, “Hindus are victims, not jihadis (Muslims) like your brothers and sisters.”
