Prem Krishnavanshi is a Hindi and Bhojpuri singer and performer from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (UP). He is known for his Islamophobic songs and “bhajans” (devotional songs). In several songs, he suggests Muslims are “anti-nationals who should go to Pakistan” and that “Muslims will eventually force Hindus to pray namaz if they don’t wake up soon.”
In 2019, Krishnavanshi posted a song on YouTube with the lyrics “Insaan nahi ho saalo, ho tum kasaayi; Bahut ho chuka Hindu-Muslim bhai bhai” (You are not human, you are butchers; it’s enough of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood).
“Hinduo kaa hae Hindustan, Mullo jaao Pakistan” (India is a land of Hindus, Muslim preachers should go to Pakistan) is a line from another of Krishnavanshi’s hits that YouTube removed from his official channel, but could not prevent its spread further it as it continues to be reuploaded by others.
“I don’t think my music is Islamophobic. My music signifies truth and if someone thinks it’s Islamophobic, I can’t stop them from feeling that way,” claims Krishnavanshi who believes they are not hate songs. His songs are regularly played in rallies by Hindu supremacist groups, primarily in India’s “Hindi belt” or the northern states. In early 2022, the UP government gave him an award for his song praising Yogi Adityanath, its hardline Chief Minister.
Krishnavanshi regularly promotes Hindutva leaders on his social media as well as anti-minority propaganda about demolishing mosques and building temples in their place.
