Affiliation: Vishwa Hindu Parishad
Vocation/Title: Konkan Division Secretary
Categories: Hate Mongers
Location: Maharashtra, Mumbai

Mohan Salekar is the secretary of the Konkan division of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) from Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is known for regularly supporting Hindutva-related violence and propagating conspiracy theories about Muslims.

In December 2019, Salekar gave a speech in support of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) during a pro-CAA rally in Mumbai. The CAA sought to grant expedited citizenship to six religious minorities from India’s neighboring countries, except Muslims.

In February 2023, Salekar addressed Hindutva groups who were protesting against land being allotted for a burial ground adjacent to a Ram temple in Mumbai, claiming it was “Land Jihad,” a conspiracy theory propagated by Hindutva groups that Muslims conspire to acquire land and edge out Hindus.

“If a Muslim burial ground is built next to the temple, our Ram Sena will destroy it within a day,” Salekar threatened.

In August 2024, Salekar urged the government to protect the religious minorities of Bangladesh and strengthen the border security so that criminals do not sneak in during the political agitation in the country, at a press conference in Mumbai.

“Hindu homes, businesses, temples, and idols are being targeted. Even Hindu crematoriums are not being spared and there are attempts to grab Hindu properties as part of ‘Land Jihad,’” said Salekar.

In response to whether a similar political agitation could take place in India, Salekar said, “We have seen situations like this being created in India, like the Shaheen Baug protests and farmer’s agitation, but a situation like Bangladesh will not happen in India. This is because Hindus are a majority in this country.”

In November 2024, Salekar confirmed that VHP members were carrying out efforts to consolidate Hindu votes to ensure a pro-Hindu government came to power in Maharashtra, alleging opposition parties would take measures “against the Hindu community” if they came to power.

“This is no longer a hidden fact that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a party got 99 seats by only indulging in ‘Vote Jihad,’” Salekar claimed, referring to a conspiracy theory propagated by Hindutva groups that Muslims were using democratic participation as a weapon against Hindus.

“Why shouldn’t Hindus unite and vote for the candidate of a party that looks after their welfare? We have been witnessing cases of ‘Love and Land Jihad’ in Maharashtra, too, and an atmosphere of fear is being spread as the Hindu community is being targeted,” Salekar said, referring to the conspiracy theory that Muslim men seduce Hindu women to convert them to Islam.

In April 2025, Salekar alleged that police in Mumbai assaulted Bajrang Dal volunteers who were assisting a minor girl register a molestation offence and that Hindus felt threatened by this.

“It seems that Mumbai police officials follow pseudo-secularism where they serve the citizens according to their religion. The police are making us feel that it is a crime to be a Hindu in India, to carry out a peaceful procession during Ram Navami and to demand justice for a minor girl assaulted sexually,” said Salekar.

In October 2025, Salekar defended Sanjay Chaudhary, a local resident of Mumbai who was arrested after posting inflammatory videos on Prophet Mohammad. Salekar alleged that the police had succumbed to pressure from a protesting crowd and illegally arrested Chaudhary.

Salekar regularly posts content about the VHP’s activities and promotes the Hindutva ideology on his social media and supports the enactment of the Ramayana, a Hindu epic in schools. He also posts pictures with other Hindutva hate mongers such as Ramgiri Maharaj, a Hindu monk who passed derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
