Meena Devi Diwakar

Affiliation: Rashtriya Bajrang Dal Women’s Wing
Vocation/Title: District President
Categories: Hate Mongers
Location: Agra, Uttar Pradesh

Meena Devi Diwakar has been described as the District President of the Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad, District President of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal (RBD) Women’s Wing and the Divisional Head of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) from Agra, Uttar Pradesh. She is known for regularly attempting to “purify” the Taj Mahal, a historic Mughal era monument, and for inciting violence against Muslims.

In November 2018, Diwakar, along with 2 other women, performed a “puja” (Hindu religious ceremony) inside the mosque located inside the Taj Mahal premises, to “prove” that the monument was originally a Hindu temple, the “Tejo Mahalaya.” This was done in retaliation to the namaaz (Islamic prayers) performed by local Muslims at the mosque despite the Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) ban on it, with Diwakar stating that it was therefore polluted and she had to “purify” it with holy water.

“If Muslims are being allowed to offer namaaz here on all the days, then even we can do our puja at our Tejo Mahalaya,” said Diwakar, adding, “The authorities need to stop them first, and then they can stop us.” In March 2021, Diwakar was issued a notice for attempting to offer prayers in the Taj Mahal once again.

In July 2022, Diwakar declared that the ABHM would give a bounty of $213,000 to anyone who brought the chopped heads of the two Muslim men accused in the killing of a Hindu tailor in Udaipur.

In February 2024, Diwakar, along with other ABHM members, filed a petition in an Agra court seeking prohibitory orders against the observation of “Urs,” an event to mark the death of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, in the Taj Mahal, which takes place annually.
