Keshav Upadhyay is the state spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Maharashtra. He is known for publicly supporting Hindutva propaganda against Muslims.
In February 2021, organizers of the Elgar Parishad supported Muslim activist Sharjeel Usmani after a speech he gave at the event in Pune in January where he stated, “The Hindu community has badly degenerated in today’s India.” Upadhyay tweeted that “Elgar Parishad is dividing the society,” claiming that by supporting Usmani, the Elgar Parishad had stated its true intentions.
In February 2023, Upadhyay supported an event organized by the Sakal Hindu Samaj, an umbrella body of Hindutva organizations, in Maharashtra, where calls were made for the economic boycott of Muslim-owned businesses as well as laws against religious conversions and alleged “Love Jihad,” a conspiracy theory propagated by Hindutva groups that Muslim men seduce Hindu women in order to convert them to Islam. Upadhyay said there was nothing wrong in BJP party leaders attending protests organized by local residents.
In June 2023, after communal violence broke out in Beed, Maharashtra, the BJP accused the NCP of creating “instability” in the state whenever it was out of power.
“The BJP has a strong force of pracharaks and has ample issues to reach out to people… It does not need such issues… It is the NCP, Congress and Uddhav Thackeray Sena who have nothing to tell the people and hence they are making such statements,” claimed Upadhyay.
In July 2025, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) acquitted all the accused in the Malegaon blast case from 2008. Upadhyay accused the Congress of trying to malign the Hindu religion.
“The court order exposed the Congress leadership’s agenda against the Hindu religion. Congress leaders, including Sharad Pawar, have used the term ‘Hindu terrorism’, but the verdict has proved that a Hindu can never be a terrorist,” he claimed.
On his social media, Upadhyay praises the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), supports other BJP leaders and attacks opposition leaders for their more secular views and promotes his own speeches at events.
