Hari Mishra, a spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in West Bengal, is a prominent Hindutva voice in the state who has repeatedly targeted Muslims with provocative and inflammatory speeches.
On December 13, 2024, in Hooghly, Mishra announced a rally supposedly in protest against violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, but used the occasion to launch an open attack on Muslims in West Bengal. He claimed the state was on the verge of becoming “another Bangladesh” and warned of the imposition of “Sharia law.”
Mishra pushed baseless fears that Hindus are under siege across several districts, painting a manufactured picture of existential crisis aimed at stoking hatred and fear.
On January 23, 2025, at a Sanatan Prahari event in Champdani, Hooghly, he escalated his communal propaganda by again invoking the fear of a “Muslim takeover.” He weaponized demographic fears and framed West Bengal’s Muslim population as a threat, using Bangladesh as a scarecrow to further Hindutva’s deep-rooted anti-Muslim campaign in the region.
As a key BJYM functionary, he speaks not just as a local leader but as a mouthpiece of the BJP’s youth wing, giving his dangerous claims a wider political cover.
