Arjun Singh

Affiliation: Bharatiya Janata Party
Vocation/Title: Former Member Of Parliament, Barrackpore Lok Sabha
Categories: Hate Mongers
Location: West Bengal

Arjun Singh, a senior BJP leader and former MP from West Bengal’s Barrackpore constituency, has repeatedly used communal language to target Muslims, especially during times of political mobilization. On April 20, 2025, during a protest in Gaighata, North 24 Parganas, Singh openly called for an economic boycott of Muslims, urging Hindus to stop buying from Muslim-owned shops and services. He went further to question those eating at biryani shops with Muslim names, insinuating that they might unknowingly be eating beef.

In another instance slurs like “manchunwa” and “plastic bottle chachra chunne wala” to describe Muslims, degrading an entire community based on casteist and classist tropes.

In the past too, Singh has attempted to stoke communal tensions. During the May 2020 Telinpara violence in Hooghly district, he shared a graphic video of a bloodied man, falsely claiming that Hindus were being attacked under Mamata Banerjee’s rule. Fact-checkers later confirmed that the man in the video was a Muslim, Manzoor Alam, who had been attacked while offering namaz. That same year, in September, Singh accused Muslims in Murshidabad of burning a Kali idol, claims denied by both police and temple authorities.

Most recently, Singh is facing legal proceedings in connection with a bombing case near his residence in Bhatpara. While the Barrackpore court issued an arrest warrant, the Calcutta High Court temporarily restrained the police from taking coercive action.
