Vocation/Title: MLA, Badli Assembly Constituency

Aahir Deepak Chaudhary, a Delhi BJP MLA, has built his political career on communal incitement, anti-Muslim dog whistles, and targeting vulnerable minority groups under the garb of nationalism. His speeches are marked by open hostility toward Muslims, often branding them as “Rohingya-Bangladeshis” to justify their exclusion from political participation and public life.

On January 30, at a campaign rally in Badli, Rohini, Delhi, Chaudhary invoked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as his model of leadership and called for the expulsion of Muslims he labeled as “Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.” He boasted of telling them to leave in other public meetings, including in Jahangirpuri, and accused the AAP and Congress of facilitating their stay by issuing Aadhaar cards, claiming these parties wanted their votes. “If they win, they will turn our home into Bangladesh,” he declared, amplifying the long-standing Hindutva bogeyman of demographic invasion.

Two days later, on February 1, at another campaign event in Badli, he doubled down, telling any “Rohingya-Bangladeshis” present to leave, insisting that his campaign did not need their support. He accused the Kejriwal government of diverting resources to them, fueling the myth that Muslims, particularly migrants, are being prioritized over Hindus in government schemes.

His anti-Muslim stance was once again on display at a Holi event in Delhi, where he accused these so-called “Rohingya-Bangladeshis” of “disrupting the atmosphere” of the Hindu festival. He called on local Hindus to be vigilant and report any suspected Bangladeshis or Rohingyas, playing into the narrative of mass infiltration and legitimizing vigilantism.

On March 23, at a BJP gathering in Bhalswa, he repeated his call for the removal of “Rohingya-Bangladeshis” from the constituency. In an attempt to cloak his bigotry in nationalist respectability, he declared that India needed Muslims like former President APJ Abdul Kalam while insisting that those he labeled “Rohingya-Bangladeshis” had no place in his constituency. He also encouraged people to inform him of any suspected migrants, alleging widespread forgery of documents.

Despite his brazenly hateful public record, he continues to enjoy political legitimacy within the BJP.
