Raghvendra Pratap Singh is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a former member of the legislative assembly (MLA) from Dumariyaganj, Uttar Pradesh (UP). He is also the state convener of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a right-wing youth organization set up by UP’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2002. He is known for regularly delivering divisive, hateful and communal remarks during election campaigns.
During an election rally in February 2022, Singh warned Hindus that if they did not vote for him, they were Muslims and he would destroy anyone who insulted the Hindu community.
“Tell me, will any Muslim vote for me? So be aware that if Hindus of this village support another side, they have Muslim blood in their veins,” Pratap threatened, adding that he would get a DNA test done because “They are traitors. Even after so many atrocities, if a Hindu goes over to the other side, he should not be allowed to show his face in public.” He also threatened Muslims saying, “Listen Muslims, if any Hindu is insulted and if you look at any Hindu girl, then I’ll get you beaten so much and cut so much…”
In the same month, Singh also said “If you make me MLA again, Muslims will stop wearing skullcaps and start putting tilaks.” In another video that was circulating on social media, he is heard saying, “They [Muslims] have circumcision, if they look at our women, I will emasculate and send them to Pakistan…Listen up Maulanas if any Hindu is insulted…then I will hit you so hard and get you cut up so much that even your name will be wiped off.”
Singh also urged voters to beware of “vote katwas“, referring mockingly to other Hindu candidates from opposition parties pitted against him. “We are afraid of ‘vote katwas’ more than ‘katwas’ (a derogatory term used to refer to Muslim men).” He also claimed credit for changing names of localities which earlier had allegedly Islamic names.
In October 2025, Singh made another controversial statement during his visit to a village in UP where two Hindu women married Muslim men and allegedly converted to Islam, saying that Hindu men should kidnap 10 Muslim girls to avenge the two Hindu women.
“I will arrange the marriage of any Hindu who elopes with a Muslim girl and also arrange employment for them,” Singh said, adding, “There’s no need to be afraid. We are with you. The issue of Muslim boys marrying two Hindu girls won’t end just like that. Instead of two, Hindu youth should bring at least 10 Muslim girls and marry them. I will take care of the rest.”
He also claimed that “The Dumariyaganj area used to be called Mini Pakistan. Since Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the reign of terror of these people has been reined in. Otherwise, there were several villages where Hindus lived in fear, and their daughters and daughters-in-law were not safe.”
Although a police complaint was registered against Singh, he has not been charged or arrested yet, and has always defended his comments by saying that it was “conditional speech” meant to “counter rising Islamic terrorism” and taken out of context.
In his social media posts, Singh regularly praises BJP members like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath, as well as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities, apart from promoting his own public outreach work.
