Ravi Sonkar is a member of the Bajrang Dal, a Hindutva organization, from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He is known for calling for Muslims to be beheaded.

In May 2022, in a video posted to his Facebook page, Sonkar threatened to kill Muslims who offered prayers at the Gyanvapi Mosque, which adjoins the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The mosque has been targeted by Hindutva groups who claim it was built by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1669 after allegedly demolishing a Hindu temple. Some Hindu petitioners claimed that a fountain in the wazukhana (ablution area) resembled a “shiv-ling” (symbol of the God Shiva).

“It is sad that these people (Muslims) have used our shiv-ling to clean their dirty hands and legs for years. We will behead those heads,” Sonkar threatened in the video.

In his social media posts, Sonkar regularly posts content that vilifies Muslims. He also promotes a Hindu nation and Hindutva apart from posting pictures of his Hindutva campaign activities.
