Navneet Ravi Rana is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She is known for regularly making violently anti-Muslim statements in service of making violently anti-Muslim statements in service of creating a Hindu nation and for her hardline Hindutva ideology. She is married to Ravi Rana, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Maharashtra.
In April 2022, following the lead of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, she and her husband demanded a stop to the use of loudspeakers in mosques during azaan (call to prayer). They distributed loudspeakers and encouraged people to recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside mosques in Amravati. She was arrested following the announcement that she and her husband would recite the Hanuman Chalisa in front of Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray’s residence, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the time.
In May 2024, in response to a 2013 speech by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi when he said that if “police are removed for 15 minutes, his community would show what they could do,” Rana stated that 15 seconds would be enough to balance the “Hindu-Muslim ratio” in the country if the police were removed.
A few days later, she courted controversy again when she posted a video on X comparing Owaisi to a cannon, saying “…We keep such armory at our doorstep for beautification…I am also the daughter of an Army man. Today, Ram bhakts and PM Modi’s lions are roaming in every nook and corner. It is the reason everything is in control.”
In May 2024, while campaigning for BJP candidate Madhavi Latha in Hyderabad, Rana said that Latha would stop the city “from turning into Pakistan.” A criminal case was also registered against her for violation of the Election Commission of India’s prohibition of undue influence and false statements at elections as well as disobedience of an order by a public servant, for her statement “if you vote for Rahul Gandhi or Congress, the vote goes to Pakistan.”
In the same month, Rana made another controversial comment during an election rally in Delhi.
“Vote for Kashi and Mathura, Ayodhya is just a trailer; See how Muslim areas vote, that’s how India will become like Pakistan, Indonesia or Kashmir. You need to vote in large numbers to shock these people.”
Also in May 2024, Rana and BJP leader Raksha Khadse displayed a “Hindu Rashtra” placard during an election rally in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. She also repeated Latha’s hateful gesture of directing an imaginary arrow while passing by a mosque.
In December 2024, Uddhav Thackeray’s comment questioning the BJP’s Hindutva ideals drew criticism from Rana.
“Uddhav Thackeray has no right to teach us Hindutva. Those who abandoned Hindutva for power and started loving other flags, including those resembling Pakistan’s emblem, cannot lecture us on Hindutva,” Rana stated, referring to the Shiv Sena supposedly shedding its Hindutva ideology and joining hands with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Rana regularly posts about attending various BJP events and rallies and praises other BJP members.
