Ketakee Singh, a BJP MLA from Bansdih in Uttar Pradesh and the wife of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, accused by multiple women wrestlers of sexual harassment, has cemented her place in the Hindutva machinery with openly Islamophobic remarks.
On March 10, 2025, speaking to reporters, Singh demanded that a separate wing be built for Muslims in the proposed Ballia medical college, claiming, “Muslims should have a separate wing and building in the medical college so that Hindus remain safe. Who knows what they might spit into our food?” Her proposal to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was laced with deep-rooted communal prejudice. She went further, justifying the demand for segregation by adding, “If they have a problem staying with us, they can get treated there.”
Instead of addressing religious coexistence, Singh stoked fear and suspicion. She supported Raghuraj Singh’s bigoted suggestion that Muslim men wear “tarpaulin hijabs” during Holi to avoid discomfort. Defending him, she said, “Raghuraj ji is absolutely right. If they insist that girls must always wear hijabs and they have such a strong aversion to colours, then they can use hijabs to cover themselves on Holi as well. They should stay indoors.”
