Sonu Singh Rajput, a local Congress leader in Ludhiana, has openly embraced Hindutva extremism, using his political position to intimidate religious minorities.
His involvement in targeting Christians came to light in December 2024 when he harassed a pastor on camera, accusing him of conducting religious conversions. The pastor, who had been invited to a home for a Christmas service, was confronted by Rajput, who insisted that such gatherings should only take place in churches and not in “his area.” His tone was not just authoritative but openly threatening, making it clear that he was asserting territorial control over who could practice their faith in the neighborhood.
Rajput did not attempt to hide his actions. Instead, he proudly shared the video of the incident on his Facebook profile, using it as a call to action for others to do the same.
He wrote: “I request all of you that if such activities are taking place in your street or neighbourhood, you must oppose it because if there is any religion which is the biggest, then that religion is Sanatan Dharma.”
He further declared Hinduism to be the “biggest” religion, aligning himself with the supremacist ideology that seeks to suppress religious plurality in India.
