Nazia Elahi Khan

Affiliation: Bharatiya Janata Party
Vocation/Title: BJP Minority Leader
Location: Delhi

Nazia Elahi Khan, also known as Nazia Sanatani, is a BJP leader known for her consistent pattern of inflammatory and hate-filled remarks against Muslims. As BJP Minority Leader, Khan has used her platform to spread disinformation, fuel communal tensions, and promote hostility toward religious minorities. Her speeches and social media posts routinely vilify Muslims, portraying them as violent, deceitful, and a threat to Hindus.

On February 24, 2025, Khan posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) in which she falsely claimed that Muslim men had followed her from Etah, Uttar Pradesh, and intentionally crashed into her car while she was en route to the Maha Kumbh mela in Prayagraj. She derogatorily referred to them as “mullas” and accused them of attempting to harm her. The Kanpur Dehat Police later contradicted her claims, stating that the accident was caused by the driver of Khan’s vehicle falling asleep at the wheel. The police urged people not to spread misinformation, but Khan’s video had already gone viral, fueling anti-Muslim hysteria.

Her history of incendiary statements extends beyond social media. On May 10, 2024, in Karda, Maharashtra, she gave a public speech in which she warned Hindu women against trusting Muslim men, invoking the bogey of “love jihad.” She claimed that 2,800 Hindu women had been killed by Muslim men and that “a Muslim man will first woo you, then kill you in the name of love jihad. How can a Muslim man love you when he can so easily give triple talaq and destroy lives?”

On January 19, 2025, in Sulebhavi, Belagavi, Karnataka, she addressed a gathering of Hindu activists, where she declared that Muslims were being trained in mosques and shrines to trap Hindu women and prepare for an Islamic takeover of India, invoking the conspiracy of “Ghazwa-e-Hind.” She claimed that Muslims would “cut anything that Hindus worship,” promoting a dangerous and dehumanizing image of the community.

Khan has repeatedly targeted public figures with her vitriol. On February 22, 2025, in Delhi, she accused Muslim men of sexually exploiting women during stampedes in Mecca, and she attacked actress Swara Bhaskar, referring to her Muslim husband as a “kathmulla,” an anti-Muslim slur . On February 27, 2025, another video surfaced in which she claimed that women only advocate for human rights in Hindu households but ignore them in relationships with Muslim men.

Her anti-Muslim hate speech has repeatedly drawn legal complaints. On January 20, 2025, the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) filed a complaint with Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer, R. Alice Vaz, against Khan for her speech at a Hindu nationalist event in Rohini on January 5, 2025.

At the event, she launched into a tirade against Muslims, falsely claiming they were inherently violent and prone to terrorism, rape, and “love jihad.” She declared: “Tell them (Muslims) to get education, they will not! Tell them to become human, they will not! Tell them to study, they will not study! Tell them to do something, they will not do it! But if you tell them to rape, they will do it immediately. Tell them to do love jihad, they will do it immediately. Tell them to throw bombs, bullets, and ammunition! They will throw it immediately. Tell them to create terror, they will do it immediately.” The complaint cited her repeated violations of the Model Code of Conduct and the Representation of the People Act, as her speech was seen as an attempt to incite communal violence ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections.

Khan’s history of deceit extends beyond hate speech. In August 2021, she was arrested in Kolkata for allegedly defrauding a man of ₹6 lakh under the false pretense of providing legal assistance in a matrimonial case. She posed as a lawyer and took the money with a promise to expedite the case, but after receiving the payment, she neither followed through nor returned the amount. When the complainant confronted her, she allegedly threatened him with dire consequences.

Despite repeated legal complaints and police contradictions of her claims, Khan continues to push communal propaganda, using social media and public speeches to spread hate. She remains a key figure in the BJP’s strategy of communal polarization, weaponizing misinformation and bigotry to further her political ambitions.
