Advocate Ashutosh Dubey is a staunch Hindu nationalist and a BJP loyalist, ironically heading the party’s Maharashtra social media legal and advisory department, according to his X (formerly Twitter) bio.
Dubey is not only Islamophobic but also casteist. In June 2021, he shared a post claiming to be Rajesh Tiwari, a UPSC aspirant from Lucknow, who allegedly failed the exam despite scoring 643, while the cut-off for the General category was 689, with a demand to end caste-based reservations.
However, Alt News debunked the claim, revealing that the photograph had been circulating since 2017. It was an image of Saeed Rimon, a Bangladeshi man, misrepresented as ‘Rajesh Patel’ to propagate anti-reservation rhetoric.
In June 2023, a video surfaced showing several students chanting ‘Jai Sri Ram’ in response to Muslim peers offering Namaz at the Allen Institute in Kota. Initially, Dubey posted the video with the caption “just in,” but three hours later, without fact-checking, he claimed it was from 2020. Alt News later debunked this, confirming the video was from June 23, 2023. The incident occurred during the Asar prayers on Jumma, when some students loudly chanted ‘Jai Sri Ram’. Despite the chants, no major altercation followed.
Dubey’s commitment to Hindutva runs so deep that, without regard for his profession, he openly tweeted that he would never cast a vote for any Muslim party, Muslim candidate, or any party opposed to Hindutva.
In May 2023, Dubey tweeted a video showing two men boasting about setting a hill on fire, claiming, “Uttarakhand: two people, Instagram handle ‘beingsalmankhanx22,’ proudly admitting to setting a whole mountain on fire. What kind of jihad is this?” The tweet garnered over 4,600 views. However, Dubey omitted key facts: the arrested individuals included two Hindu men, Brijesh Kumar and Sukhlal, alongside one Muslim man, Salman. Despite the false claim, Dubey neither clarified nor corrected his post, leaving his misleading claim unaddressed.
Dubey is notorious not only for spreading fake news but also for misquoting to align with his agenda. His followers, sharing his disdain for Muslims, seldom question or verify his claims. In June 2024, Dubey posted:
“India is center of power & ideological ground of the world. The main target of Islam is India. For a long, Muslims have been attacking India in every way to establish complete control over India. Indians will have to treat this problem from its roots. If India loses, the world loses.”
He attributed this quote to Ashin Wirathu, a radical Buddhist monk infamous for inciting communal violence. While Wirathu is openly anti-Muslim, there is no evidence that he ever made such remarks about India. This quote remains entirely unverified, further highlighting Dubey’s pattern of distortion to propagate his Hindutva agenda.
In August 2024, Dubey again posted a fake claim and shared a screenshot of an old video of a sexual assault case in Bengaluru, India, with a caption claiming, “This is what Hindu sisters are facing in Bangladesh right now.” The tweet garnered over 1.2k retweets and 2k likes. However, the claim was debunked by Alt New.
Even though the claim was debunked, Dubey never deleted the post.
