Chandan Kumar, a Hindu supremacist from Bihar, runs multiple extremist X (formerly Twitter) accounts such as “Squint Neon” and “Hinduphobia Watch.” He is a leading propagandist, running relentless hate campaigns that incite anti-Muslim and anti-Christian violence, and dehumanize minorities.
Kumar also targets women in interfaith relationships, harassing and stripping them of their dignity. His actions fuel fear, communal tension, and hatred, making him a key player in Hindutva’s dangerous online campaigns.
Kumar has over 131,000 followers on his vile @HPhobiaWatch handle and 122,000 on his venomous @TheSquind account. He uses these platforms to relentlessly harass hundreds of Hindu women, including minors, in relationships with Muslim men, fueling hate and endangering their lives. Kumar has a private Instagram account under the handle @saffronstrikers, with 136 followers. Kumar’s Squint Neon account has been suspended multiple times for violating X’s policies, but he consistently brings it back under different names. Currently, he operates under the handle @TheSquind.
In November 2024, Kumar doxxed journalist Rana Ayyub by posting her phone number online. This led to nonstop harassment, with calls, video calls, and lewd messages flooding her phone through the night. Ayyub posted “At around 1 am tonight, this right-wing handle posted my number on Twitter, and asked his followers to text me. My phone did not stop ringing through the night. Video calls, obscene Whats app msgs.”
Kumar has a history of harassing women online. In May 2023, Sunita (name changed), a Hindu woman in an interfaith relationship, became a victim of Kumar’s online harassment. After her private Instagram photos with her Muslim partner, Ahmed (name changed), were shared by Kumar, her inbox was flooded with threats and abuse. Right-wing vigilantes, including those from the Squint Neon page, amplified this harassment, falsely accusing her Hindu male friends of being Muslim. The online harassment escalated into real life when several right-wing hooligans showed up at Sunita’s home, hurling abuses at her from outside.
According to Alt News, Kumar, through his Squint Neon account, doxxed the personal details of around eighty Hindu women between 2023 and 2024. These women, mostly in interfaith relationships, were targeted with threats, harassment, and abuse. In June 2023, Kumar ramped up its harassment, targeting women in interfaith relationships. In one of the many tweets he singled out a woman, who identified as a devotee of Shiva, for being in a relationship with a Muslim man. The tweet mocked her faith and relationship, spreading hate to a wide audience, with over 100,000 views and nearly 1,000 retweets.
Squint Neon shamed a woman for having “Mahadev Ki Diwani” in her bio while posting a picture with a Muslim man. The account mocked her for wearing a hijab and praying, posting, “Inko temple me decent kapde pehenene bol do to apne rights ke upar 2 KM essay likh degi.” (Tell them to wear decent clothes in the temple, and they will write a long essay on their rights.) The tweet went viral, with 500,000 views and 2,500 retweets, inciting further harassment.
Kumar has no shame when it comes to doxxing women, he doesn’t care whether the girl is a minor or not, as long as it suits his agenda. In 2023, Kumar targeted a teenager, posting images of her dressed as Lord Krishna and with her Muslim boyfriend in a hijab. The tweet gained 500,000 views. The victim pleaded for the harassment to stop, sharing abusive messages like “Your body won’t even be found.” In June, Squint Neon attacked a minor Hindu girl for being seen with a Muslim man, accusing him of grooming her. They tagged government officials and even contacted the girl’s father, urging him to enforce Hindutva at home.
In May 2020, during the anti-CAA protests, activist Safoora Zargar, who was pregnant at the time, faced immense harassment after her arrest. Kumar, using his Squint Neon account, perpetuated vile rumors about Zargar, mocking her pregnancy and spreading false claims about her personal life. He posted an image of another woman from the protest who had written “F**k Hindu Rashtra” and falsely claimed it was Zargar, insinuating that her pregnancy was a consequence of her activism. Kumar’s attack was part of a larger campaign to vilify and discredit those opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Chandan Kumar has direct ties to the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). An investigation by Alt News revealed that from 2021 to 2022 Kumar worked as a senior content analyst with Varahe Analytics, a BJP-affiliated political consultancy. Kumar was responsible for managing social media content for the BJP, including during the Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh elections. Additionally, he also worked with Jarvis Technology, providing media content for the BJP during the Assam state elections.
Kumar’s @SquintNeon is a breeding ground for anti-Muslim hate. From exploiting the misery of children from Gaza who are facing war to glorifying violence against Muslims, the account posts toxic, harmful content. In November 2023, he posted a disturbing photo of a crying child from Gaza, covered in debris, and made multiple memes out of it. He even encouraged others to participate in a meme contest using the child’s image. Despite consistently violating platform rules, Kumar’s account remains active, spreading hate and exploiting human misery for likes.
In September 2018, Kumar tweeted a false claim that a Naga Sadhu had been beaten by a Muslim mob in Uttarakhand. The tweet quickly spread, being retweeted over 500 times. However, Kumar deleted it after it was revealed that the person involved wasn’t a Naga Sadhu, but a beggar who had molested a woman. The attackers weren’t Muslims; they were Hindus, and the one who beat the beggar was the woman’s brother.
In January 2024, Chandan Kumar used his @TheSquind account to distort an image showing DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin handing the Thanthai Periyar statue to Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair. The altered image was highly offensive and led to an FIR being filed against Kumar. Right-wing influencers on Twitter claimed that BJP leaders intervened, blocking his arrest after Tamil Nadu police had already traveled to Delhi to detain him.
Kumar’s @HphobiaWatch account has also been a platform for spreading Islamophobic content and other hateful rhetoric. In August 2023, he posted a deeply offensive tweet referring to Srinagar as the “sex capital of India,” further contributing to the toxic narrative and fueling communal tensions. In October 2024, Kumar used his @HPhobiaWatch account to spread misinformation by posting a video that falsely claimed a group of teenagers were harassing an American woman on a busy street, accusing Bangladeshis of heckling her for not wearing a hijab. In reality, the woman in the video was Mishti Subas, a Bangladeshi actress and supporter of Sheikh Hasina, who was targeted for celebrating the Prime Minister’s birthday by cutting a cake. The incident had no connection to any American woman or hijab-related controversy.
In September 2024, Kumar continued his anti-Muslim rhetoric by making a derogatory statement, claiming, “Muslims are cheap labour in the West. They are either cab drivers, delivery boys, or running shawarma stalls or bakery shops at best in fear of getting deported.”
